Brett A. Richards
Chairman & Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Richards is a natural resources executive with over 33 years of expertise in mining and metals. He has a unique background in mining M&A, mine financing, mine development and senior level operations experience. He brings publicly listed CEO experience in the mining sector, as well as global operational experience – with a geographic focus in the last 12 years in Africa. Brett has held positions for private equity shareholders in the past including CEO of Midnight Sun Mining, CEO of African Thunder Platinum, CEO of Renew Resources, and CEO of Octéa. He previously served as the transition CEO of Roxgold, CEO of Avocet Mining, and was part of the five-person start-up of Katanga Mining. Brett’s other publicly listed experience was in senior executive positions with Kinross Gold and Co-Steel Inc.
Graham Beaumont Tasker
Mr. Tasker has a very good understanding of the value chain in mining having worked for several years in various African countries (Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Tanzania), as well as London. He is a South African Accountant with 22 years of mining finance experience with various listed companies including Namdeb Diamond Corp, De Beers, Central African Gold plc, ENRC plc, ArcelorMittal, Endeavour and AngloGold Ashanti. His career experience spans the corporate world, regional offices and various mine sites. He has also worked in companies that produce various commodities including diamonds, copper and cobalt, gold, coal, iron ore, bauxite and platinum. He understands and thrives within a culturally diverse environment and is a strong, visible leader of the team to ensure that the Finance Department operates to the highest international standards. Mr. Tasker holds a B.Com. degree as well as various law & tax diplomas and management development programmes.
Co-Head of Operations and Capital Projects
Mr. Swanepoel brings over 26 years of mine operations experience in Gold, Platinum, Chrome, Diamond and Iron Ore open pit and underground mining operations. Prior to joining Banro, Mr. Swanepoel held the Chief Operating Officer position for ArcelorMittal in Liberia, Operations Manager for Endeavour Gold in Burkina Faso and General Manager position for Octéa Limited in Sierra Leone for over 5 years where he focused on developing high-performance teams and optimizing mine operations. Mr. Swanepoel brings experience building new mine operations from feasibility stage to operating and conducting open pit to underground transition feasibility studies and has previously held operations management positions at Samancor Chrome, and Eastplats. Mr. Swanepoel is a member of the Mine Managers Association of South Africa (AMMSA) and a registered professional engineer with Engineering Council South Africa (ECSA).
Co-Head of Operations and Capital Projects
Mr. Gonsalves brings over 28 years of mining engineering and operational experience in the base metals and gold sector(s), with over 18 years developing and rehabilitating mining projects in remote African regions, across Southern, Central & Western Africa. Mr. Gonsalves has been involved with various projects from design, commissioning to start-up and through to production and expansion. Mr. Gonsalves has extensive knowledge of Banro’s operations, having held the position of General Manager at Twangiza mine previously. Mr. Gonsalves held various Senior Management positions within Golden Star Resources, Equinox – Lumwana Project, Avocet Mining, Octéa Limited and Endeavour Mining. Mr. Gonsalves holds an Engineering Diploma and is a Member of the IoM3 of the United Kingdom.
Head of Exploration
Mr. Flindell is an Australian geologist with 33 years of experience in minerals exploration and feasibility studies. He has worked in senior exploration, resource development and management roles and has led teams to discover, develop and expand several gold and copper mines in Southeast Asia, Central Asia, West Africa, Europe and Central America. His experience also extends to base metal and iron ore projects. His career includes 12 years with Newmont Mining, 11 years with Avocet Mining and 5 years with Signal Delta. Peter is a member of AusIMM and AIG enabling him to perform the roles of Competent Person (JORC) and Qualified Person (NI 43-101) for gold and copper. He is a non-executive Director on the Board of Global Drilling and Exploration Group.
Head of Risk Management
Mr. Cornet brings over 13 years of mine security and risk management experience in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Banro. Prior to joining Banro, Mr. Cornet was the head of the Risk management department for Metorex Mining for 5 years, based in Lubumbashi, Congo (DRC). Mr. Cornet has also been the Risk Management Manager for Lomamines Sprl, Director of Security and Community Development for Katanga Mining, and the security manager for Anvil Mining all based in the DRC. Prior to his experience in the mining industry, Mr. Cornet served in a number of positions in the Belgian Police Forces and is a certified Chief Constable.
DRC Chief Legal Counsel/Secretaire General
Mr. Ntumba is a legal, regulatory, compliance and strategic adviser covering all of Banro’s DRC subsidiaries since 2012 (Mining & Energy). A former prosecutor in the DRC, a lawyer admitted by the Ontario Law Society (2006), and former senior legal counsel with the RBC Law Group / RBC Dominion Securities, for many years. Mr. Ntumba brings a unique but diversified background to business and operations support in a very challenging operational and regulatory environment. He has specialized in regulatory, tax and labour litigation as well as alternative dispute resolutions. Mr. Ntumba holds a civil law degree (Université de Kinshasa), an LLB (University of Ottawa) and DEA Advanced Law Degree (University of Panthéon-Assas).
